From Ashes

 by Sarah B. Leonard

It was done. Maybe now he could go on, forget the past. Start a new life, a new relationship.

He’d been alone for too long, just Gibbs and his boat, in the basement, drinking together. He thought of all the times he had toasted the boat. It had never saluted him back.

A new life. A new love. New life ahead.

“Hey, finally found you.”

“DiNozzo.”

“What’s with the bonfire?”

Gibbs tapped the bottle he was handed against the one Tony still held.

“Just needed some ashes, DiNozzo.”

“Ashes? Growing a phoenix or what?”

“Yeah, for a phoenix.”

Gibbs smiled.

'It had never saluted him back.'

Ooh, I loved that line. So much! I really like this, dark without being depressing. Hopeful and sorta... sweet.

If you could use sweet to describe Gibbs.

Thank you. I think Gibbs has his sweet moments - he just hides them well!

That was excellent! Darkness giving way to light. Wow. So much in 100 words.

Nice :) And a nice thing to come back to after a day spent travelling in the rain :)

I like how it's like Gibbs has found his light at the end of the tunnel. I continue to be amazed at how much you call tell in just 100 words :)

And now I have to go back out in the rain..

Thank you! I enjoy these exercises of 100 words (although I have been known to have a long title...which doesn't count in the count!)

Don't melt in the rain!

“Ashes? Growing a phoenix or what?”

LOL!
Yeah, Tony always knows what to say to make Gibbs smile. :-)

I LOVE IT.
